Córdoba Alcázar

Wander the World Joyfully

Córdoba Alcázar

December 14

Day 64
Oh my gosh.

What a day this was!
First lesson:
Roses grow in packed mud.  Thrive, actually.

Stop fussing.
First stop:  Madinat Al-Zahra.  An archeological treasure found west of the city.
It’s the Palace of the first Caliph of Al-Andalus.
Abd al-Rahman III.
No slouch, this guy.
 Constructed from the year 940.
I’m not kidding.

Like we learned in Lisbon; ride to the top, walk down.

Off we go!

Joe and the Palace gates.

The courtyard where the guests waited to see the Caliph.

Apparently he made them wait for hours to show how important he was.

Is that the seed of Modern Medical practice?? 🤔
A detail of the walls.
With Joe!

Here’s where his guests were received.  The archeologists have recovered some of the purple marble used on the floors.
It was absolutely majestic.
You can see some of the recreated marble floors.  There were giant jigsaw puzzles of flooring all over the place.

Tony, looking for a place for his tool shed.

Some farmer found this treasure.
Makes me want to get a plow and a metal detector.
Here are his cows.
For Betty.
Next stop :
The Mosque Cathedral of Córdoba.

That's insanely well preserved. What an important guy! It looks pretty grand but if it doesn't have a tool shed, pushaw!

  2. Where are Deb and Tony Now? says:
