Córdoba: Mosque-Cathedral, Synagogue and Alchemy
Well, here was a delightful find. We have waited since our last trip to Spain to be able to return and visit this Mosque-Cathedral.
There’s Joe hoofing it in the rain.
We had to walk around two sides of the building to find the entrance!
The construction of the Mosque began in 833. The Cathedral inside was begun in 1523.
It’s so powerful. It seems to go on into Infinity.
I gasped and cried a little when we entered.
Here you can see a small altar off to the right.
Mary sits in the center. After passing through hundreds of the beautiful arches, you find the Cathedral.

This is a good mix of the original Mosque and the insertion of the Cathedral.
The place is just so beautiful.
It’s non stop.

If not, we strongly suggest Googling it. It’s truly eclectic, fascinating, inspiring, overwhelming.

This was ancient.
And as with any good Mosque, there is a lovely garden outside,
with water features and orange trees.
The Jewish Quarter is right next door. We were too late for the museum, but the tiny Synagogue from 1314, is still there.
There are inscriptions, in Hebrew, on the walls from the Book of Psalms.
And such an historical place to anticipate Hanukkah.
And outside the museum sits Maimonides, a Sephardic Jewish Philosopher. How cool is that?
Then, just for fun, Joe found an Alchemy Museum.

Full of magic and mystery.
A water pillar of fire, for example.
It’s just a lovely city.
We appreciated the lack of holiday lighting here in Córdoba. It was a thought provoking visit.

Okay now I really think that there are many good reasons to travel. I was becoming a homebody but you are disturbing that. A cathedral that prompts tears is something to see!
