Wander the World Joyfully

New York New York

It’s a wonderful town.

Caught a little sunrise.

We got to meet up with my pal from college days.  John and I went to SPU together. We were sharing some stories and he remembered that we were in a few musicals together. One was an epic  (read horrible) musical called ” Ride! Ride!” about John Wesly, no less. Really.  A show for parents and college administrators only.  We played people in an asylum. Was it acting? Not sure, but the experience was the THE perfect analogy for college life there!
Here are our friends who took us to the best places…
…until 3:30 when we had to be back to day care.
We got to walk the Highline, which is a reimagined train track that is now a park, a paved walkway, gardens and fancy residential area.  There was some talk of doing that with the viaduct in Seattle.
Look at that blue sky.  John talked about that blue sky the day of 9/11.  I honestly can’t imagine living through that and staying in the city.

We met at FIT (Fashion Institute of Technology, where John went to school after fleeing SPU,  and sometimes I wish I’d followed his example!)

Favorite augmented art piece.

( It occurs to me that you may not be able to enlarge this. FIT has helpfully slapped an official sticker on this artwork letting us know they are a smoke free institution).
What a day, it was so fun!
Then we raced back to the ship and.. found it IS the city that never sleeps, because we sat in the harbor for 6 extra hours (that’s at least 2 Broadway shows, people) while something was repaired to pass inspection.  I don’t know if it was the Coast Guard or the Health Department. We’ll never know the truth because they’d have to kill us all.
This is a “repositioning” cruise.  Like my cousin, Karen said, “You have to be flexible if you’re on a trip like that.”
The upside is that we got a fantastic Harbor Tour on our way out.
On to Newport, Rhode Island.  Now that’s a bucket list stop for sure!
