Lisbon Day 1

Wander the World Joyfully

Lisbon Day 1

We set out with out map of the city.   Which looks like a ball of yarn after the cat has gotten to it.

If we follow my interpretations we get our steps in.  If we follow Tony’s,  we get to our destination.
There are lovely tiles leading the way everywhere we go.
First,  Castilo de São Jorge.
No, wait, first, São Vincente and his pal.

Is he standing outside smoking?

On to the castle.  Follow the maps.
The Castilo de São Jorge is a true Prince Valiant fortress.
With defensive arrow slits.
And teeny tiny walkways with knee high guardrails/trip hazards.
There are beautiful views of Lisbon from up top.

What was it like to live in these places?

Next, lunch and to the Sé Cathedral.
No.  I don’t know what these words mean.  I have been told that it is easier for Portuguese people to speak in English than try to translate in Spanish, so I am giving up for now on learning my Espanish and using it here.
Here is our walk,  blissfully downhill.
The Sé Cathedral is historic for many reasons you can find on Google.

Behold, your standard Gloriosity.

And look at Santa Ana, getting to read for eternity.
And this. Oh My Glorious.
A Sé Sister came out of this hidey hole door, locked the door, and put the KEY BACK
ON THE PILLAR.
And walked away.
Tony saw the whole thing.  Our palms were sweating.  We were sorely tempted to open the door and steal The Grail we know is hidden inside.
It still bothers us.
We ended the day with a delicious meal.
We didn’t know where we would go.  We walked out of our apartment and looked to the right and this lady said to us!
“Hola!  Come here to eat!”
So we did.

This guy made my dinner, then watched soccer with Tony afterwards.

Tomorrow.  Sintra.
After our first night in 1A.
